If you run an online business, it’s always that time of year… setting new goals, and listing out our “to-dos” and working hard to make THIS year the best year ever…
But I do have a few words of caution for you…
Don’t Forget Yourself
I’m here to remind you, “You have permission to put yourself on the calendar.”
Yep, that’s my truth bomb today.

Now how would I know that you might forget to take care of “you” in all the hustle and bustle of building an online business?
Because I’ve been there.
I discovered some of my missing pieces of awareness [forgetting to put myself on the calendar] three years ago in marriage counseling. My counselor pointed out that I had created unrealistic expectations for myself. I was saying “yes” to things my husband had never asked of me. Like putting him and our children on our calendar but never making time to get out with friends, or take a trip, or go out to eat with my best friend.
I was showing up for my family but not showing up for myself. And I’d forgotten the importance of self-renewal, connected friend relationships, and remembering that I need those things to thrive.

I work. And because I work online and I spend much of my “awake” time working, I sometimes feel guilty and won’t make time for friendships or connections. But they really ARE important.
So, I tell you —>
You have Permission to put Yourself on the Calendar
because it’s true. Because you need to.
It’s normal to take responsibility for all.the.things… and create unrealistic expectations, AND THAT”S OK!!!! The key is to find a better balance in your life that lets you find some time for rest, renewal, and relationships.
I believe that the sooner I acknowledge I need to put myself on the calendar, the sooner my unrealistic expectations will pass and I can get back into the groove of work life and home life and a better version of me.

Here’s what I want you to do. Call a friend. Pick some possible dates on the calendar to get-together and meet for coffee, dinner, or maybe even a movie. Then, talk with your significant other, setup child care, or do whatever you need to do to make the date happen. Then, put yourself on the calendar, and show up for you.
That’s all I’ve got for you today…embrace your ability to let go of unrealistic expectations and give yourself permission to set a date for yourself on the calendar.

Oh, and you should know that no matter how successful you are, those “unrealistic expectations” will happen. We are all human and we ALL tend to beat up on ourselves for not doing things we feel like we “ought” to be doing.
It’s OK. Let it go. And make sure to surround yourself with people who love you and who have your back.
