What I Learned About Online Business from the Homecoming Queen
Some of life’s greatest lessons come from unexpected sources…
A long time ago… in a high school far, far away, I was a junior. With braces. And really frizzy hair.
You know how the teen years are, right? Trying to figure things out. You’re trying to discover where you fit in, and your parents are asking you crazy questions like,
“What do you think you want to be when you grow up?”
Well, I was a dichotomy of sorts. I loved reading books, art, and cheerleading. My sister got me into cheerleading – but that’s a story for another day.
Let me Tell You About our Homecoming Queen
Now, one of the girls I cheered with was named Heidi. Heidi wasn’t the prettiest girl in the group. But she had an infectious laugh. She was easy-going, and she did well in school.
Heidi was so well organized that she was not only our high school’s homecoming queen, she was also our class president.
Now, I have never had everything figured out, but one of the things I learned to do early on was “pay attention” and watch to see what others are doing.
And here’s what I learned about life [and how to run an online business] from Heidi…
I was walking down the hallway at school on my way to class one day, and I saw Heidi had stopped and was talking with the janitor. She was asking him about his family.
She took the time to talk with everyone like this.
To Heidi, it did not matter if you were the janitor or the principal, Heidi made everyone feel important.
Heidi was well-known for having get-togethers at the mall, her home, and elsewhere. And do you know what made it special? She always made everyone feel welcome and invited.
By observing Heidi I learned that one of the best ways to get to know new people is to invite them. Invite them to get to know others, invite them to gather together, and invite them to share their stories and know-how.
You Are Invited
Heidi’s example taught me the importance of inclusion. She modeled the old adage of “treat others the way you want to be treated.”
In life, and in business, the “golden rule” is a good standard to live by.
Just know, these blog posts, are my way of letting you know that:
“You Are Invited.”
We have a mastermind going on and you’re invited to join us.
I help other influencers monetize their influence through my online course “9 Essential Steps to ROCK Sponsored Posts” and if you sign up to take it, you are invited to pick my brain on ways to grow your business by working with brands and sponsors.

Or, maybe you have a question and you don’t know who to ask… well, I invite you to e-mail me and ask. I’ll do my best to respond when I can.
My desire is to live out my life the way Heidi did, and create a place of inclusion and helpfulness.
